Overview

The business & the brief.

Sorella is a fictional Italian restaurant and wine bar in Delray Beach run by two sisters: Giulia cooks, Marta runs the room and the wine. The site has to make people hungry, show them who is cooking, and turn that appetite into a booked table or a private-dining enquiry.

Sorella is a fictional business. This concept was designed and built by Obsidian Webworks to demonstrate what we create for restaurant businesses. No client results are implied.

Design direction

Look, feel & voice.

European Hospitality: an Italian food magazine crossed with an intimate dining room. Parchment paper with a real grain, terracotta, olive and deep wine, Cormorant Garamond set with generous italics over Work Sans, roman-numeral chapters, magazine figure captions and hand-drawn flourishes (an olive sprig, a pasta-rolling sketch, a wine-ring stain). Arched image masks appear once per page as the signature.

Key features

Built to bring customers in.

A masthead that knows what night it is

A centred SORELLA wordmark with links split either side, and under it a tiny line that changes by weekday and time (“Tonight: open 5–10 · Bar from 4”, “Kitchen’s closed · Tomorrow: open 5–11”, Monday’s “closed”).

Menu you can point at

The home-page carta is set like a magazine page. On desktop, hovering a dish floats its arched photo beside the cursor with a little lag and tilt. On phones each dish gets a small arched thumbnail instead.

Full menu with scrollspy and print

Five courses with a sticky course nav (a swipeable chip row on mobile) that tracks your scroll, dietary marks with a legend, a chalkboard of tonight’s specials that changes by weekday, and a print stylesheet that turns it into a clean paper menu.

Wine list driven by a map of Italy

A hand-drawn SVG of Italy with twelve clickable, keyboard-accessible regions filters 29 wines grouped north to south. You can combine it with rosso/bianco/rosato/bollicine chips and a by-the-glass / by-the-bottle switch, with a live count and a reset.

Booking that ends in a note card

Party stepper, the next three weeks as date cards (Mondays shown as “chiuso”), time slots grouped Early/Prime/Late per weekday and party size, occasion chips and quick-add requests. Confirmation arrives as a tilted, lined note card from Marta, with a stamp and a wine-ring stain.

A day at Sorella, with a clock

The story page’s timeline runs from 9:30am to midnight, and a sticky clock’s hands turn to match whichever hour you’re reading.

Bottom-sheet navigation on mobile

The mobile menu slides up from the bottom with a handle, roman-numeral links and today’s hours. It traps focus, closes on Esc, backdrop tap or swipe-down, and a floating Reserve pill hides itself over the booking widget and footer.

Honest, personal content

Named fictional people, a supplier ledger with delivery days, a ‘things the sisters still argue about’ table, and an FAQ, with no awards, founding years, ratings or popularity claims.
